City Information:

Charlotte, a mid-sized city with a population of 632,760, is located close to the border of South Carolina, just a three-hour drive to the beaches of the Carolinas or to the west, the scenic mountains. As the largest city between Washington, D.C. and Dallas, TX, Charlotte attracts both companies and individuals to the thriving region of 15 counties, with the city of Charlotte as the hub. Booming with economic and commercial activity, Charlotte has all the advantages of one of the most rapidly growing metropolitan areas in the nation. Yet the people are warm and friendly and many areas still retain their small town flavor.

Charlotte represents the New Accent of the South - preserving the past, yet embracing the future. The Southern culture of Charlotte represents a colorful spectrum-from the sophisticated fine artwork of the Mint Museum-to the engine-racing thunder of NASCAR that draws more than one million visitors each year. Charlotte is a prime professional sports market with the winning Carolina Panthers calling Charlotte home, as well as the WNBA Charlotte Sting, the new NBA Charlotte Bobcats and of course home to NASCAR and Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Charlotte has emerged as a financial, distribution and transportation center for the entire urban region and serves as the subsidiary headquarters for many major national and international companies. Serving over 116,800 students, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system is the largest in the Carolinas and is the 23rd largest in the nation. Student achievement tests are consistently above the national average at all grade levels. In addition, the Charlotte area has 35 colleges and universities that serve over 150,000 students, including The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
