What is Cooperative Education?
Cooperative Education (co-op) is a program where college students are employed in a position directly related to their academic major field of study to enhance the education process and provide experience. Co-op is a partnership between the student, employer, and the college or university. Students typically alternate full semesters of work and full semesters of school; however, if they attend a local school, students can work while attending classes. Students are typically required to work a minimum of 2-3 semesters.

Co-op Timetable
Most college or university co-op timetables are very flexible. Schedules are mutually agreed upon between the employer, co-op, and college or university co-op office. Below is a sample of various co-op schedules based on a typical semester schedule:

Housing/Other Benefits to Co-ops
Co-ops are reimbursed for report-to-work trips (domestic air travel or mileage, meals, etc.) for each co-op session, unless their permanent address is within 50 miles of the company facility. Co-ops are entitled to the same paid holidays, 401K and overtime as other temporary full-time employees. Medical/Dental benefits are not provided. Benefits are summarized in the Benefits Overview for Temporary Employees.

AREVA NP Inc. will assist the Co-op in finding housing through a third-party assistance company. Most co-op students have found housing quickly by surfing the internet, particularly newspaper Web sites in the locations, or by recommendations of employees. No housing subsidy is provided.

Interviews
Interviews are usually conducted via the phone or at on-campus interviews. If the student is within driving distance of our location, an on-site interview may be done. Full-time candidates will take priority over Co-op candidates when setting up on-campus interviews.
